Connect Claude, Cursor or another AI tool to LegitGeo
Create an API key and paste the ready-made setup into Claude, Cursor or another tool so it can answer questions from your LegitGeo data, then revoke the key when you stop using it.
What this connects
Many AI tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code, can connect to outside services through a standard called MCP. Once your tool is connected to LegitGeo, you can ask it things like “how often did ChatGPT name us this week?” and it answers from your LegitGeo data.
Your tool can read your businesses, visibility and its trend, questions, topics, citations, competitor comparison, AI traffic, shopping cards, Action Center actions and signals, and the verified-lift library (what similar businesses’ changes actually did). It can also do a few things: accept or dismiss suggested topics, write a content brief, update an opportunity or task, and log a change on Proof. Those use your plan’s allowances, as they do in LegitGeo.
It works on every plan, and anyone on your team can create a key. The key is an API key: a long password that lets one program, here your AI tool, use another, here LegitGeo.
Create a key
Select your name at the bottom of the sidebar to open Settings.
Select API Keys.
Select New key.
Your name (1), API Keys (2) and New key (3). The MCP endpoint box (blurred here) shows https://app.legitgeo.com/api/mcp. Captured October 23, 2026, from the demo business Harborline Plumbing. In Name, type something you will recognize later, such as “Claude on my laptop”.
Name (4) and Create (5). Captured October 23, 2026, from the demo business Harborline Plumbing. Select Create. The Copy your API key window opens with your new key, which starts with
ans_.
The key is shown only once. Copy it now with the copy button next to it, or copy the setup in the next section, which already contains it.
Paste the setup into your tool
Under Connect a client, pick your tool: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex CLI, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw or Zed.
The tool picker (1), where to paste (2), the copy button (3) and Done (5). The key and setup are blurred here. The picker, the copy buttons and Done can sit just outside the right edge of the white window, as here. Captured October 23, 2026, from the demo business Harborline Plumbing. Read the line under it. It says where the setup goes, for example Run in your terminal. for Claude Code, or a settings file for Cursor and VS Code.
Select the copy button on the setup box.
Paste the setup where the line says. For Claude Desktop there is nothing to paste: type each field from the box into Claude’s Add custom connector form instead.
Select Done at the bottom right.
Your tool now lists a server named legitgeo; in Claude Desktop, the connector is named LegitGeo. Ask it to list your businesses to check it works. The key’s Last used date in API Keys updates each time your tool calls LegitGeo.
The setup is shown only when you create a key. To connect another tool, create another key.
The setup text contains your key. Treat it like a password: do not paste it into a shared document or a chat.
Revoke a key
Open Settings and select API Keys.
Select the bin icon on the key’s row.
Select Revoke. You see Key revoked.
Revoke (3). Captured October 23, 2026, from the demo business Harborline Plumbing.
Any tool using the key stops working at once. The key stays in the list marked revoked.
Good to know
Keys belong to the person who created them: each teammate sees only their own. A key reads and acts for your whole organization, whatever the person’s role.
Keys never expire, so revoke keys you no longer use. When you remove someone from the team, their keys stop working for your organization at once.
If your tool says Invalid API key, the key was revoked or is wrong; create a new one. Missing or malformed API key means the tool sent no key, or one that does not start with ans_; check the setup you pasted.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as Chat inside LegitGeo?
No. Chat runs inside LegitGeo with your organization’s Anthropic key. This connects a tool you already use. See Turn on Chat and ask about your results.
Who do I ask for help with the setup?
Email hello@legitgeo.com with the tool you use. Never include your key.
