When an AI update moves everyone’s results

Market-wide moves list the days an assistant’s answers shifted for most businesses at once, usually a model update, which Proof takes out of your results.

Why answers move for everyone

When an AI assistant changes its model or the way it searches, its answers shift for many businesses on the same day. If you made a fix that week, you could see the shift and think your fix caused it.

Every night LegitGeo looks at each assistant’s answers across all the businesses it tracks and finds the days when they moved together. It asks no assistant anything and costs nothing.

Check for market-wide moves

  1. On the Proof page, scroll to Market-wide moves.

The section (1) and its message when nothing moved (2). Demo business, captured October 23, 2026.
The Market-wide moves section, showing: No market-wide moves detected in the last 60 days.
  2. Read each row. It names the assistant and the day the move started, then gives the size of the move in points and how many of the tracked businesses moved the same way, as in “… of … businesses moved the same way”.

The list covers the last 60 days. When nothing moved, it says “No market-wide moves detected in the last 60 days.”

A move is listed only when at least 5 tracked businesses had answers on that assistant each day and the move was at least 3 points.

How Proof takes it out of your results

A market-wide move also moves the comparison answers, so it cancels out of your change’s number. When the comparison clearly moved, the change says so: “Answers moved … for everyone in these weeks, likely a model update. That part is subtracted.”

A move on an assistant your change is aimed at is also listed in the change’s evidence, in a line that ends “likely a model update. The comparison absorbs it.”

If the change had nothing to compare against, a move like this cannot be taken out, and the change can be at most Probably helped.

If your visibility score jumped or fell with no change on your side, check this list first. See Find out why your visibility score changed.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the list empty?

Either no assistant moved for most businesses at once in the last 60 days, or too few businesses were tracked on it each day to tell. Developers can read the same list at https://api.legitgeo.com/v1/lift/shifts.
