Check how ready your website is for AI assistants

Diagnosis reads up to 25 pages of your site, checks which AI crawlers can get in and scores it out of 100, using one of your monthly diagnoses (20 on Local, 60 on Growth, 200 on Agency).

Updated

What Diagnosis checks

Diagnosis reads your website the way AI assistants do. It reads up to 25 pages, checks your robots.txt (the file that tells robots which pages they may read) for 17 AI crawlers (the programs that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google and others send to read websites) and test-fetches your homepage as 13 of them. Then it scores how easily assistants can read and quote your site, out of 100, and lists what to fix first.

Important

The score says whether AI assistants can read your site. It does not say whether they recommend you. To see that, read See how often AI assistants name your business.

Run a diagnosis

  1. In the sidebar, under Optimization, select Diagnosis.

  2. Check the website address in the box. It starts with your business’s website, for example https://yourbusiness.com.

  3. Select Run diagnosis. If you have run one before, the button says Run again.

Diagnosis in the sidebar (1), the website box (2) and Run again (3). Example business, captured October 23, 2026.
The Diagnosis page with the website address box and the Run again button, above the last score card.

A progress card, Diagnosing followed by your site, moves through Reading your pages, Testing access for AI crawlers, Scoring answer-readiness and Ranking what to fix first. It takes about a minute. When it finishes you see Diagnosis complete with your score.

While a new run is going, your last finished result stays on screen.

If a run fails, you see We couldn’t diagnose with your site and the reason. Check that the address opens in your browser, then select Run again.

Read your score

  1. Find your score out of 100 at the left of the score card. The note beside it, such as Needs work, says what the score means.

  2. Under the note, check the letter grade, such as Grade C, and the site that was read.

  3. Read the four counts: Pages read, Crawlers allowed (how many of the 17 AI crawlers can read your site), Open fixes and Do these first (the fixes that matter most).

  4. To share the result, select Client report. It downloads a file you can open in any browser or email to someone. Fix list (CSV) downloads a spreadsheet of every fix.

The score (1), the grade (2), the four counts (3) and the two downloads (4). Example business, captured October 23, 2026.
A Diagnosis score card: 55 of 100, Needs work, Grade C, four counts, and the Client report and Fix list (CSV) buttons.

See why you got your score

  1. Under the score card, select the Score breakdown tab.

  2. Select a section, such as Crawler access, to see its checks. Each section shows its score, how many checks to fix and how many of the 100 points it is worth. A failing check says why it failed.

The Score breakdown tab (1) and an open section (2). Example business, captured October 23, 2026.
The Score breakdown tab with the Crawler access section open and its checks listed.

Check which AI crawlers can read your site

  1. Select the AI crawlers tab.

  2. At the top, check whether your site has a robots.txt, a sitemap.xml (the list of your pages that search engines and crawlers read) and an llms.txt file (a short summary of your business written for AI tools). Each one shows found or missing.

  3. In the table, read the Status of each crawler.

The AI crawlers tab (1), the file checks (2) and each crawler’s Status (3). Example business, captured October 23, 2026.
The AI crawlers tab: robots.txt found, sitemap.xml missing, llms.txt missing, and a table of crawlers that can read the site.

Can read your site: your robots.txt lets it in and LegitGeo fetched your homepage as it.

Allowed (not test-fetched): your robots.txt lets it in, but LegitGeo cannot test it from its own servers.

Partly blocked: some of your pages are closed to it.

Blocked in robots.txt or Blocked by firewall: it cannot read your site, so the assistant it works for has less to go on. Whoever manages your website or hosting can change this.

Tip

To see which AI crawlers actually visit, and which pages they read, see See which AI assistants visit and read your website.

Look at an earlier run

  1. Select the History tab. It appears once you have run Diagnosis more than once.

  2. Select a finished run. Its score card, Score breakdown and AI crawlers replace the ones on screen.

The Fix list always shows your current fixes, whichever run you pick.

How many diagnoses you get

Each run uses one diagnosis from your monthly allowance, even a run that fails: 20 a month on Local, 60 on Growth and 200 on Agency. To see how many are left, open Settings and select Plan & usage, or read See how much of your plan is left this month.

When they are used up, a message such as “You have used all 20 diagnoses in your Local plan this month.” tells you the date they reset. For more, upgrade your plan.

How long does a diagnosis take?

About a minute. It reads up to 25 pages of your website.

Does a higher score mean AI assistants will recommend me?

No. The score says how easily assistants can read and quote your site. Whether they name you is measured by tracking their answers on Visibility.

What should I do after a diagnosis?

Work through the fix list, starting with the fixes marked Do first. See Work through your fix list.
