Report a change for a company and see whether it worked

Report a change your platform made for one company through the partner API, and read its verdict in that company’s report under What worked.

For platformsUpdated

How it works

When your platform changes something for a company, such as publishing its prices, editing its profile or claiming a listing, you can tell LegitGeo. LegitGeo then checks whether AI answers about that company changed because of it.

This is called verified lift. LegitGeo compares the company’s answers for four weeks before and four weeks after the change with your other companies that changed nothing in the same weeks, and with its own answers the change should not affect. A rise that happened to everyone, such as an AI update, is not counted as the change working.

Once the company’s answers are being collected, the verdict comes about a month after the change goes live: three days for assistants to pick it up, then four weeks of answers.

Important

A change needs the company’s answers from before and after it. Live companies get answers once LegitGeo switches on the weekly AI check for your platform; until then, their changes end as Not proven. Test companies use sample AI results, which are not saved as answers, so their changes end as Not proven too. Use test companies to check your integration, not the verdicts.

Report a change (for developers)

  1. From your server, send POST /partner/v1/accounts/{id}/changes with your key, using the company’s LegitGeo account ID.

  2. Include a short title, such as “Published prices for drain cleaning”. Add effectiveAt if the change went live earlier: it defaults to now, can be up to 90 days back, and can’t be in the future.

  3. Add a kind, such as profile.prices, and use the same kind for the same type of change at every company. Add platforms for the assistants the change should move, and urls for the pages it touched.

  4. Add a ref, your own ID for the change, so sending it twice is safe. LegitGeo answers 201 for a new change, or 200 with the first change when the same ref comes again.

The verdict stays empty until the four weeks after the change are over. Anything before then is a reading in progress, not a result, so don’t show it to the company as one. When the verdict is final, the Change measured webhook event fires.

For every field and the full response, see the partner API reference, which LegitGeo shares on request. See Offer LegitGeo inside your platform.

Tip

Leave out platforms when every assistant reads the change. A Yelp profile mostly feeds ChatGPT; a Google Business Profile feeds Google AI Overviews and Gemini. Assistants you leave out become part of the comparison, which makes the verdict sharper.

See whether it worked

  1. In the sidebar, select Partners. At the top right, choose Live for a real company. The console opens on Test data.

  2. On the Accounts tab, select the company.

  3. Select Open full report.

  4. Scroll to What worked.

A change still being measured (1), and a finished one marked Verified (2) with how sure LegitGeo is (3). A demo company whose answers were added for this picture. Screen from October 23, 2026.
The What worked section of a hosted report with two changes: Claimed the Google Business Profile, measuring until November 16, 2026, and Published prices for drain cleaning, marked Verified at plus 22 points with over 99% certainty.

Each change shows its title, “Live” with the date it went live, and the assistants it targets. While it is being measured, it shows Measuring until and the date the verdict is due.

When it is done, it shows one of five verdicts: Verified, Probably helped, No effect found, Went down or Not proven. Beside it is the change in points with a range, for example “+18 points (+6 to +30)”: the share of answers naming the company rose 18 points more than for the comparison group, and the real effect is very likely between 6 and 30. A line such as “98% sure this fix helped” says how sure LegitGeo is. See What each verdict means.

What worked appears once LegitGeo has measured a change you reported for that company, in its daily run after you report it.

Who the company is compared with

The comparison group is your other active companies in the same mode, used only when at least 5 remain after leaving out any that changed something in the same weeks or have no answers on the same assistants. Otherwise, LegitGeo compares with other businesses it tracks on the same assistants, at least 5 businesses from at least 3 organizations.

Numbers are pooled, so no company sees another company’s results. A live company is never compared with test companies.

Once enough changes of one kind are measured at many businesses, the report also shows What works for businesses like you: the pooled effect of each kind of change. Test companies never count toward it, which is another reason to use the same kind for the same type of change.

Frequently asked questions

Can I report a change from the console?

No. Changes are reported from your server through the partner API, so they can be sent automatically as your platform makes them.

Why does a change say Not proven?

There were too few answers, or the result could still go either way, so LegitGeo can’t say whether the change helped. A test company, or a live company before the weekly AI check is switched on, has no answers, so its changes always end this way. See What each verdict means.
