Set up your first business

After your first sign-in, setup asks for your business name and website, where your customers are, the services to watch, the questions customers ask AI and your competitors.

Updated

The first time you sign in, setup opens by itself. It has six steps, shown as dots at the bottom of the screen. Have your website address and the names of two or three competitors ready.

In LegitGeo a business is called a brand. Your organization is named after the business name you type in step 1.

Step 1: Name your business

  1. On Set up your brand, type your business name in Brand name.

Brand name (1), Website (2), the optional description (3) and Continue (4). Harborline Plumbing is a made-up business with sample data. Real product screen, October 23, 2026.
Setup step 1, Set up your brand, with Harborline Plumbing in Brand name, harborline-plumbing.example in Website, a short description, and a Continue button.
  2. In Website, type your address after https://, for example yourbusiness.com.

  3. Optional: in Describe your brand (optional), say what you do and who you serve, for example “Plumbing repairs and water heater installs for homes in Irvine”. A description helps LegitGeo suggest better topics and questions.

  4. Select Continue. It stays grey until both the name and the website are filled in.

Step 2: Choose where your customers are

  1. On Select your target market, choose your country in Region. It starts on United States.

  2. For the United States, choose your state in State (optional), or leave Nationwide (no state) if you serve the whole country.

Region (1), State (optional) (2), Language (3) and Continue (4). Harborline Plumbing is a made-up business with sample data. Real product screen, October 23, 2026.
Setup step 2, Select your target market, with Region United States, State California, Language English (en), and a Continue button.
  3. Choose your customers’ language in Language. It starts on English (en).

  4. Select Continue.

The state is where AI answers are asked from, so a plumber in Irvine chooses California. Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answer for the whole country, so the state changes the other assistants’ answers only.

The button shows Setting up... while LegitGeo saves your business, then step 3 opens and starts suggesting topics.

Important

Once you pass this step, your business name and website are saved, and going back to step 1 does not change them. To change them later, see Change your business details, location or website.

Step 3: Choose the topics to watch

A topic is a service or customer need you want to track, such as “water heater repair” or “drain cleaning”.

  1. On Choose topics to monitor, wait a moment while LegitGeo suggests topics for your business.

  2. Tick the topics you want and untick the rest. The first 7 start ticked, and you can choose up to 10. Setup saves up to 25 questions, so tick 5 topics or fewer to avoid removing questions in the next step.

A ticked topic (1), Add your own topic (2) and Looks good (3). The tip (4) mentions 50 questions, but setup saves up to 25. Harborline Plumbing is a made-up business with sample data. Real product screen, October 23, 2026.
Setup step 3, Choose topics to monitor: eight topics, five of them ticked, an Add your own topic box, a Looks good button, and Topic Selection Tips on the right.
  3. To add your own, type it in Add your own topic and select Add topic. Use a service, such as “sewer line repair”, not your business name.

  4. Select Looks good.

The button shows Preparing questions... while LegitGeo writes up to 5 questions for each topic.

Step 4: Review the questions customers ask

A question, which LegitGeo also calls a prompt, is what a customer might type into an AI assistant, such as “who can fix a leaking water heater today in Irvine”.

  1. On Choose questions to monitor, open a topic to see its questions. The first topic is already open.

  2. To remove a question, select the x beside it. To remove a whole topic, open the menu on its row and select Remove topic.

  3. To add a question, type it in Type a customer question... under a topic and select Add. A question needs at least 10 characters.

  4. Check the total under Questions to monitor, then select Continue.

The button shows Saving questions..., then step 5 opens.

Important

Setup saves up to 25 questions, whichever plan you choose next. If you have more, a note says how many to remove before you can continue. On Growth (100 questions) and Agency (250), add the rest once your plan starts: see Add, edit or pause the questions you track.

Step 5: Add your competitors

  1. On Add your competitors, type a competitor’s name in Company name and its website in domain.com, then select the + button. Repeat for each competitor you know.

Company name (1), domain.com (2), the + button (3), Competitors to track (4) and the button that starts tracking (5). Harborline Plumbing is a made-up business with sample data. Real product screen, October 23, 2026.
Setup step 5, Add your competitors: Company name and domain.com boxes with a + button, three competitors ticked under Competitors to track, and a Start tracking with 3 competitors button.
  2. Meanwhile LegitGeo looks for more competitors. Under Competitors to track, tick the ones you want and remove wrong ones with the x.

  3. Select the button that starts Start tracking with, for example Start tracking with 3 competitors.

You need at least one competitor. Until you tick one, the button reads Add a competitor to continue. A competitor you typed but did not add with + is saved too.

You then see “Almost done! Choose a plan to get started.” and the plan step opens.

Step 6: Choose a plan

Nothing is tracked until you choose a plan. Choose a plan and start your 14-day free trial explains this last step.

If a suggestion does not load

Topics, questions and competitors are suggested by AI, and a suggestion can fail. You then see a note such as “Automatic suggestions are unavailable. Add a topic below to continue.”, with Try again where it can help. You can always type your own and carry on.

Finish setup later

Select Sign out in the bottom-right corner, or close the tab. When you sign in again, setup opens where you left off: at the topics, the competitors or the plan step, depending on what you had saved.
