Understand your free check score and top three fixes

What the score out of 100, the six scoring areas and the list of 17 AI crawlers mean, and what the score cannot tell you.

Updated

Your score and grade

Your result opens with one number: how easy your website is for AI assistants to read and quote, out of 100.

  1. Look at the score at the top of your result, with your grade under it.

The score and grade (1), the sentence that sums it up (2) and the six areas (3). A free check of harborline-plumbing.example, the website of Harborline Plumbing, a made-up business. Real product screen, October 23, 2026.
A free check result: 42 out of 100, Grade D, the heading harborline-plumbing.example scores 42 out of 100 with a sentence under it, and six area scores under Score by area.
  2. Read the sentence under the heading. It sums up what the score means for your site, and the line below it says how many pages were read and when.

The grades are: A for 80 or more, easy for AI to read and quote; B for 65 to 79, mostly readable with a few gaps; C for 45 to 64, needs work; and D for below 45, hard for AI to read.

The six scoring areas

Score by area splits the total into six parts. Each area is scored out of 100, and each counts toward the total by a fixed share of the 100 points.

Crawler access, 15 points: whether AI crawlers can fetch and read your pages. It checks the rules in your robots.txt file, whether your firewall turns crawlers away, and two hidden page settings: one that tells search engines to skip a page, and a tag that names the main copy of a page.

Content depth, 15 points: whether pages have enough readable text to be quoted. Pages with fewer than 1,000 words are flagged.

Page structure, 20 points: one clear main heading, several section headings, enough paragraphs, and key points written as lists. The hint on the page also names structured data, but structured data is scored under Trust signals.

Answer-ready content, 25 points: plain definitions, specific numbers, comparisons, step-by-step instructions and an FAQ that an assistant can lift into an answer.

Trust signals, 15 points: a visible date, an author, your business details, links to outside sources and structured data.

Match to buyer questions, 10 points: whether your page titles and headings use the words customers use when they ask.

Tip

Answer-ready content carries the most points. A page that plainly answers the questions customers ask, with real numbers such as prices and response times, raises it most.

Which AI crawlers can reach your site

An AI crawler is the robot an AI company sends to read websites. If yours turns it away, the assistant behind it has nothing of yours to quote.

  1. Read the box headed AI crawlers:. It says how many of the 17 crawlers can get in, for example AI crawlers: 17 of 17 allowed.

  2. Scroll back to the top of the page. The list beside the address box (below it on a phone) is now headed Crawler access on and your website. An allowed crawler has a tick. A blocked one is red with a cross.

The line under the heading (1) says how many crawlers can read your pages. A free check of harborline-plumbing.example, the website of Harborline Plumbing, a made-up business. Real product screen, October 23, 2026.
The list headed Crawler access on harborline-plumbing.example, saying All 17 can read your pages, with a tick beside each crawler, grouped by company.

A blocked crawler shows why: Blocked by your robots.txt file means a rule in your site’s robots.txt file turns it away, and Blocked by your firewall or CDN means your hosting or security service refuses it. Whoever looks after your website can change either one.

The 17 crawlers, by company: OpenAI (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User), Google (Googlebot, Google-Extended), Perplexity (PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User), Anthropic (ClaudeBot, Claude-SearchBot, Claude-User), Microsoft (Bingbot), Apple (Applebot-Extended), Amazon (Amazonbot), Meta (meta-externalagent), DuckDuckGo (DuckAssistBot), Common Crawl (CCBot) and ByteDance (Bytespider). The check reads your robots.txt for all 17 and also visits your homepage as most of them.

Your top 3 fixes

  1. Scroll to Top 3 fixes. They are ranked by impact, so start with the first.

Top 3 fixes: write a fact sheet about your business, add structured data, publish a sitemap, each with an Effort tag on the right.
  2. Check the Effort: tag beside each fix: Half a day or less, 1 to 3 days or About a week.

Each fix says what to change and why it matters. The emailed report adds how to make each fix. If nothing needs fixing, you see “We didn’t find anything urgent to fix” and your website.

What the score cannot tell you

The score measures how easily AI assistants can read and quote your website. It does not tell you whether ChatGPT or any other assistant recommends you. The page says so too: scores do not guarantee how any AI service ranks or recommends you.

To see what assistants actually say, you need tracking, which comes with a plan. What LegitGeo does explains tracking and Proof.

The free check reads up to 10 pages. Diagnosis, in your account, reads up to 25 and keeps your full fix list. See Check how ready your website is for AI assistants.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Diagnosis score different from my free check score?

Diagnosis reads up to 25 pages and the free check up to 10, so the two can score a different set of your pages.

I fixed something. Why is my score the same?

A website checked in the last 24 hours shows its earlier result. Run the check again the next day.

Does a score of 100 mean AI assistants will recommend me?

No. A high score means assistants can read and quote your site easily. Whether they name you is measured by tracking their answers.
